A Certified Coca Cola Addict? Well, Your Health Could Be in Jeopardy! Take a Look What This Beverage Does By the Minute!
What actually happens to your body when you drink a can of Coke? Most people probably don’t waste too many thoughts about it. But actually, the fizzy brown soft drink has some pretty considerable effects on your body, which the “Renegade Pharmacist” Dr. West Conner has summarized on his blog. Here they are in time intervals:
Looks refreshing, but is it worth drinking? |
1. The first 10 minutes
10 teaspoons of sugar shoot through your body (that’s 100% of your daily recommended consumption). Your body is prevented from immediately vomiting because the phosphates hide the taste.
2. After 20 minutes
Your blood sugar skyrockets and insulin is released at once. Your liver reports to duty immediately and converts all the available sugar into fat.
3. After 40 minutes
After 40 minutes, the caffeine in the Cola has been completely absorbed by your body. Your pupils begin to dilate, your blood pressure rises, and your liver answers by throwing more sugar into your circulation. The adenosine receptors in your brain are now blocked, which is why you are no longer capable of becoming tired.
4. After 45 minutes
Your body releases even more dopamine. This stimulates your brain’s pleasure center. Heroin works the same way.
5. At 60 minutes
The phosphates acid binds the calcium, magnesium, and zinc to your lower intestine, boosting your metabolism some more. This is compounded by the huge dose of sugar and the artificial sweeteners that force the excretion of calcium through your urine.
6. After 60 minutes
The diuretic function of the caffeine begin to kick in. (It pretty much makes you run to the bathroom.) All the calcium, magnesium, and zinc that was meant for your bones is excreted, just like the sodium, electrolytes, and water.
7. A bit after 60 minutes
After the high spirits have finally faded comes the sugar crash. You become irritable and sluggish. You have now rid yourself of all the water that was in the Cola. But not before enriching it with all the wonderful and important nutrients that were meant for your body. These could have supplied your metabolism with water or strengthened your bones or teeth. On top of that, your chance to develop diabetes, and of having to wear an insulin pump like the one pictures above, has risen.
